Crunch time looms for The Insurance Apprentice

Now in its sixth year, The Insurance Apprentice will return to South African screens early next year with nine of the country’s most exciting young insurance professionals battling it out for the coveted title. This year, we sponsored the elimination rounds and we are proud to contribute to the skills development of the industry, on a platform that also showcases its fun side.

We are especially proud of our own legal manager, JP Ellis, who made it through a tough qualifying process to become one of the final nine. To put this achievement in context, only 138 candidates were chosen to participate from the plethora of entries received from across the nation. Of those, 66 candidates made it through to the initial elimination rounds, which eventually saw only the best nine make it past the final cut. They will now prepare for a week of filming early in January where they will compete in an array of tasks that will be judged by an expert panel.

Competition requirements

To enter, the insurance professional must be younger than 35 and must have been in the short-term insurance industry for more than four years. Holding a COP qualification is also preferable but not compulsory. FA News established The Insurance Apprentice to excite more young people about what the industry has to offer, what the benefits are, and highlighting the growth opportunities – a far cry from the perception of just being “paper pushers”.

We believe The Insurance Apprentice is an incredibly innovative way to inspire the insurance leaders of the future. Our sponsorship of the elimination rounds that took place in Durban, Cape Town, and Johannesburg in October 2019 reflects our ongoing commitment to creating an enabling environment for skills development, career development, and continual training as we embark on a digitally connected business landscape.

Future talent

Our purpose as an organisation is “Insurance made personal”. There is, therefore, a great synergy between our brand and this initiative, which enables talented young insurance professionals to showcase their abilities in pursuit of realising their own personal goals and aspirations.

The winner will walk away with a trip of a lifetime to Lloyds of London, sponsored by Lloyds of London, as well as a bursary, sponsored by Inseta, to further their studies.
